Why the South Florida Cancer Association?
(continued)
Our
mission
is
to:
a)
Make
information available concerning the early warning
signs of
cancer; forms of
treatment; effects of both
cancer and the
treatment; and
where additional information and/or support may be found.
1.
Information
will be made available in the form of brochures and pamphlets
distributed throughout
South
Florida
and downloadable
from our website
and through sponsored events designed to raise
awareness concerning
cancer.
2.
Information
will be available in five (5)
languages:
English,
Spanish,
Brazilian
Portuguese,
French
and
Creole.
b) Assist
cancer victims and their families
in obtaining transportation, and if necessary housing, for and
during treatment.
c) Assist cancer victims in obtaining
treatment.
This will take the form of providing financial assistance for
the payment of prescriptions and treatment when there is a
demonstrated need for such assistance.
d)
Provide commodities and gifts-in-kind to hospices and other
health care providers who afford care and treatment of cancer
victims where there is a need for the commodity or gift-in-kind
in question and when it is in furtherance of the
Corporation’s
stated purposes.
e) Procure
and distribute merchandise to various
501 (c) (3) non-profit community service
organizations
that aid
cancer victims
and the families of cancer victims.
f)
Provide funding to
organizations actively engaged in cancer research in order to
further such research.
Such funding will be in the form of donations to be used in the
furtherance of these stated purposes.
The
SFLCA
conducts these activities for the benefit of
cancer victims and
the families of cancer victims
living in
South
Florida.
We intend to make information available to individuals with
cancer
to
assist
them
with
making
an
informed assessment concerning
their condition and what avenues of support are available to
them prior to, during, and after treatment. In assisting
cancer
victims
with
obtaining
treatment,
we
anticipate
making
it
easier
for
these
victims
to
be
able
to
successfully
seek
and
obtain
treatment
for
their
condition.
Should
hospices,
501 (c) (3) non-profit
organizations
and other
health care providers
demonstrate a need for commodities, gifts-in-kind, or
merchandise to afford treatment of
cancer victims or to assist their
families,
in furtherance of our stated purposes, then we will strive to
provide these items. The
SFLCA
further proposes to aid
programs
of
cancer research
with donations.
The truth
is, Cancer is an entirely
non-discriminatory
dealer in
misery and
death. It doesn't care if you
are
fat
or
thin,
tall or
short,
rich or
poor. It doesn't care about
your
religion, what
country you are from or what
language you speak.
